Urban agriculture offers a unique opportunity for city-dwellers to learn in nature’s classroom right in their own backyards. Fieldtrips to the UACC gardens encourage elementary school visitors to think about their community in a new way and consider where their food comes from. Many young Friendship Court and 6th Street residents come out after school to help in the gardens. Middle and high school students are challenged to learn new skills and work together when they come to the gardens to tackle a big service project. They leave with a new appreciation for their own capabilities and a sense of what is possible when we work as a team.
