Farm Manager Position Available

The Urban Agriculture Collective of Charlottesville is seeking applicants for the position of Farm Manager. The Farm Manager is responsible for overseeing and ensuring the success of UACC’s Food Production & Distribution program. Applicants should have multiple years of experience working on a small vegetable farm or market garden, the ability to work collaboratively with people of all ages and backgrounds, and a penchant for social justice. This is a year-round position with room for growth that offers a unique opportunity for the right person to manage an expanding urban food production and distribution system.

  • 2 years experience in vegetable production and distribution
  • 2 years experience in direct supervision of employees and/or volunteers
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Ability to perform repetitive and physically demanding tasks
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends with some regularity during the season
  • Strong ability to communicate with people of all ages and backgrounds
  • Strong problem-solving skills and adaptability to changing situations
  • Strong basic arithmetic skills
  • Ability to read and interpret tables and charts and written instructions
  • Ability to keep records and record data
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Familiarity and experience with BCS walk-behind tractors and implements preferred
  • Familiarity with Excel spreadsheets for use in farm planning preferred
  • Some experience with carpentry and machine maintenance and repair preferred
  • Passion for agriculture, social equity, and a willingness to learn
  • Must have reliable communication (cell phone) and transportation
